Server Rooms
The server room is the heart of the data centre, full of sensitive equipment which is both a fire hazard and an asset that needs to be protected at all costs. Typically managed through a contained hot aisle/cold aisle approach, the forced airflow used for cooling means that smoke from an electrical fire will be rapidly spread through the racks, causing damage while also diluting to a level that conventional point-type detectors will not sense.
A powerful aspirating smoke detector such as those in the SecuriSmoke range is able to use this airflow to its advantage, using multiple sampling points and the power of its large sensing chamber to detect smoke at a very low level and raise the alarm in suitable stages. This offers both early warning and a strong level of false alarm protection, ensuring power down and suppression is only required when absolutely necessary. With the detection and control unit situated conveniently outside the server room, maintenance and testing can be carried out without disrupting operations.
