Exchange of knowledge among tunnel specialists

In early June 2011 an international tunnel forum was held in San Pedro de Anes, Spain. In addition to numerous lectures, presentations and discussions, more than 150 specialists were able to attend practical demonstrations on the subject at the unique test tunnel in San Pedro de Anes. Securiton together with its Spanish partner Aguilera Electronica made full use of the platform to draw attention to its MHD and ADW line type heat detectors.

The international tunnel forum - the second of its kind - was held in the Asturian village of Noreña between Gijón and Oviedo from 1 to 3 June 2011, with more than 150 participants attending. Four kilometres outside the town is a rather unusual road tunnel. The test tunnel of San Pedro de Anes is the most modern infrastructure of its kind in Europe. Companies from all over the world are able to use the 600 m tunnel facility to test their products in staged incidents in a real environment and check their resilience and loading capacity.

The morning of the tunnel forum was given over to presentations on tunnel safety. It featured the latest product developments, current research findings on how fires occur in tunnels and how best to combat them, and a review of possible trends in the interplay between the different safety measures and intervention bodies. During the breaks Securiton and its Spanish tunnel partner Aguilera Electronica showcased their line type heat detectors SecuriSens ADW 511A Transafe and SecuriSens MHD 535 at their stand. The products themselves were also the subject of the extremely interesting presentation by Dr Arnd Rogner, CEO of Metaphysics, the Securitas group company. He explained that, rather than competing against one another, fire detection systems such as smoke detectors and line type heat detectors ideally complemented one another. After lunch the participants attended a number of practical demonstrations and workshops with various test fires at the San Pedro de Anes test tunnel. These practical impressions ideally rounded off the morning's theoretical input.
