Morro Alto Tunnel protected by SecurSens MHD 535

Morro Alto Tunnel is located in Maquiné, Rio Grande do Sul State, and will shave 11 km off the BR-101 highway by avoiding the contour of the elevation.

It is approximately two miles long and ten metres high. The two two-lane bores are each 15 metres wide. To meet Brazil's new ABNT fire protection standard for tunnels, which came into force this year, the tunnel will be equipped with Securiton's SecuriSens MHD 535 linear heat detector. This system meets EN 54-5, Class A1, with a response time that is faster than the competition.

Paraná em Rede Sistemas Ltda., Securiton's representative, is installing two extension sensor cables approximately 1800 m in length along the two bores. The chosen cable will allow monitoring of the tunnel's temperature every 10 metres. A SecuriPro Compact panel interfacing with the MHD 535 alarm and failure modules is being installed close to the control room. The electricity facility and substation will also be monitored by Securiton AG systems.
