Securiton protects Basel's St. Jakob Park against fire
St. Jakob Park in Basel is a multifunctional building facility with one of Switzerland's most modern soccer stadiums as its centrepiece. The overall complex is protected by a Securiton fire detection system. In addition to the stadium, St. Jakob Park houses a shopping centre and fitness centre, a number of restaurants and offices, 107 flats for senior citizens, and a car park for 680 vehicles. Besides hosting football matches, the stadium is also known and admired far beyond the lower Rhine as an excellent venue for open-air concerts and other major events.
Protected against fire
Comprehensive security is given top priority at St. Jakob Park, and that includes fire protection. Securiton was contracted to design and implement the fire protection solution. The solution's 2,200 SecuriStar smoke detectors and the SecuriPro smoke detection systems combine to meet the demanding conditions for fire protection. The systems consist of 14 fire detection control units, 9 local operating panels, and they are linked to 7 Securiton sprinkler test boxes. If there is a fire, an alarm is immediately signalled locally and at the same time automatically communicated to the fire brigade. The individual fire detection systems distributed throughout the building are connected to the SLS-Pro security management system, whose two SLS graphic operating stations provide an excellent overview and complete the centralized alarm management system. Also, in the event of fire an SMS message is sent via SLS to the cell phone of the emergency standby service or building service.

The realisation of this large-scale project took over 3 years. While some construction phases were scheduled parallel to each other, others were successively sequenced.
