Football stadium "Stade de Genève" Genf
Where cameras seldom follow the ball

The Stade de Genève in La Praille, the biggest football stadium in Western Switzerland, has 30,000 covered seats and meets UEFA’s security standards for international matches, thanks in part to a Securiton video surveillance system. This modern, functional stadium was completed in two years. Its main framework of fair-faced concrete and steel makes an austere impression. However, the green of the pitch and the bordeaux and grey of the seats create an attractive colour combination. Above the oval of the arena hangs a roof partially made of glass that provides pleasant light for the grandstands. Besides SFC Servette and international matches, the stadium is also used for other sporting events as well as concerts and public festivals.
Video surveillance installed by Securiton in record time
The modern stadium is not the only thing that’s impressive. Securiton’s work is also well worth a closer look. Following the short notice order for a stadium video surveillance system, the required system was implemented in record time. Forty-one CCTV cameras, including twenty-three Speed Domes, were installed. For eight of these Speed Dome cameras a special solution had to be found because they were to be mounted 30 meters high under the stadium roof. Since the installation locations could be reached only by using a truck with an elevated platform, the eight Speed Domes were painstakingly positioned, wired and configured all in one work step. Mounting the other cameras in the public areas and entrances proved to be somewhat less problematic.
What’s happening where – immediately on screen
Six digital matrix memories record the video images of all cameras. The entire system is centrally managed and controlled from the security console using a graphical video management system. The security staff see immediately what’s happening and where it’s happening from two workstations equipped with six 21’’ flatscreen monitors as well as smaller monitors. The cameras can be swivelled and the pictures zoomed, thus making it possible to react immediately in the event of danger. Because the images can be stored, events can be analysed at a later time so that hooligans, pickpockets and other lawbreakers can be identified. One measure among many, video surveillance is a significant contributor to the security of thousands of stadium visitors. They can enjoy sport and cultural events while security professionals and efficient video technology are at work to ensure their protection.
